We started off the appointment asking about potentially pushing the induction back to Wednesday as I would prefer to let things happen naturally rather than force them. The doctor wasn't a fan of the idea. He explained that because I'm healthy and the baby is healthy, I'm likely low on the list of patients needing to be induced so I could very well get pushed back a few days if they need to induce other moms before me. So if we reschedule for Wednesday like I had hoped, I could end up not being induced until the following Monday and the risks of going past 42 weeks are too dangerous for the baby. He recommended we keep our appointment for Monday which we obviously agreed to.
The doctor also checked my cervix. He said the baby has definitely moved down a good bit and that my cervix felt a good bit softer. He didn't think I was any more effaced or dilated but feels that I'm in good shape for delivery. He thinks there's still a good chance I can progress enough through the weekend not to be induced and if I do get induced feels as though my body would respond to it very well.
So although there hasn't been much progress, the doctor made me feel more confident that I may go into labor on my own and even if I don't, I'll be ok being induced.
I'm happy to say I took the day off from work tomorrow since sitting at my desk all week has been super tough. It's really hard to concentrate on work when all you can think about is when you'll finally get to meet the little baby in your belly. My plan is to sleep in a little, then maybe go get a manicure and pedicure hoping that will help me relax and get things moving :).
If it doesn't, the setup for the induction on Monday goes something like this. Sunday night, at 9pm, I have to call the hospital to see if they have any available beds. If so, I'll have to go into the hospital right away for them to check my cervix. If my cervix is "ripe" enough (effaced), then I'll get to go home and have to come back the next day. If it's not completely effaced, then they'll give me a low dose of pitocin to prepare it for induction the next day. And if they don't have any beds available then I'll have to call back on Monday night and repeat.
So was today my last day at work for the next 12 weeks??? Guess we'll find out Sunday night...or maybe sooner :)
Hang in there, Erika! We're thinking about you three constantly. Thanks for all your updates.
