Georgia Peach

Over the weekend, the Grenko clan headed south for a 4 day trip to Savannah.  Claire experienced lots of firsts: her first airplane ride, first cab ride, first hotel stay, first horse and carriage ride, first picture with Santa.  And lucky for her, mommy and daddy were there to capture it all on film :)

Thursday morning we woke up early to get ready for our trip.  Claire hung out in her favorite thing while mommy and daddy packed up.
Her exersaucer tires her out so much but she never wants to get out . She just rests her head every once in a while so she can keep playing...funny girl.
Once the car was packed, we were on our way.
Someone was so excited to get to the airport.
And the excitement didn't stop there.  Claire was just as happy on the plane too.
Mommy and daddy were super nervous for the plane ride.  We didn't want to be the parents of that crazy kid who wouldn't stop crying the entire time.  Lucky for us, she was a perfect little peach.  Although she did have lots to say.
She stayed awake for most of the flight just chatting it up.  Finally fell asleep with about a half hour to go.  After our 2 hour flight, we arrived in Savannah.  Hopped in a quick cab for a short 15 minute ride to the hotel.
And our vacation officially began.  First stop, Molly MacPhersons for some lunch.  Claire slept through most of it but woke up to hang out with us for the last few minutes.  There were so many little pubs there all decorated nice and Christmasy.  I just loved it.
After lunch, we walked around historic Savannah for a little sightseeing.
There are no high rise buildings in Savannah.  Just lots of gorgeous victorian style houses.
And these huge old moss trees everywhere.  I was a little obsessed with them.  We have lots more pictures of them but I'll spare you and just post one :)
We ended up taking a walk down Jones Street which we later found out was voted the most scenic street in the south by Travel magazine.  I can see why.  It was beautiful.
After traveling and walking all day, we were exhausted so we grabbed some pizza and headed back to the hotel.  Claire was all ready for bed.
She even had her very own crib in the hotel room.
Even though it's kind of creepy looking, Claire must've liked it b/c she slept great all 3 nights we were there.  Thankfully.

Friday morning we headed out to check out some more of the south....after Claire had her coffee...
Savannah is also known for their "squares" (parks) - there are 24 of them.  Here we are hanging in Madison Square with our shades on.
Claire really liked it there.
After hanging in the park, we headed to Paula Deen's restaurant, Lady and Sons, for some lunch.
True to Paula Deen's recipes, everything there tasted like it was dipped in butter.  DELICIOUS.  Claire and daddy at lunch.
Once we were done eating, we headed over to City Market (a big courtyard that's 2 or so blocks long with shops, restaurants, and bars) for a horse and carriage tour.  Claire meet Shey - our horse with the prettiest eyes ever.
We hopped on the carriage with a few other tourists and our tour guide Jeanine (who was a riot).
Claire seemed to be entertained.
We saw lots more pretty buildings.
Turns out the most famous sights in Savannah are the founder of the Girl Scout's house and the square where Forrest Gump sat waiting for the bus (which by the way, isn't really a bus stop so there's no actual bench there...bummer).
Friday night we headed back over to City Market for their Christmas celebration.
They really go crazy for Christmas down there.  People even decorate their cars.
After walking around City Market for a while, we grabbed some dinner at The Cafe where we realized it's not such a good idea to go to a restaurant past the little one's bedtime.  She seemed ok at first....learning bad habits from daddy.
But Claire had a little bit of a freakout just as our food came.  Mommy walked her around for a little while daddy ate, then daddy did the same while mommy ate.  As soon as we were done eating, Claire was asleep in the stroller...of course.

Saturday, we headed back to City Market for some more Christmas celebrations.  The Grinch was there.
And Shey.
Oh and how can I forget, Santa!  I really wish he would've held Claire on his lap for this pic but Santa didn't have insurance for that (seriously...that's what he told me) so mommy had to get in the pic too.  It's really a shame 'cause he was probably the coolest Santa I've seen and unfortunately I'm blocking most of him in the pic :(
The weather wasn't the greatest on Saturday.  Claire hanging under daddy's jacket to keep dry.
So we headed over to the Cathedral of St John the Baptist for a little indoor sightseeing.  So beautiful.
Saturday night, we really wanted to check out the Crystal Beer Parlor for dinner so we took our chances and went for it.  Claire seemed to be ok again.
But would later make us regret taking that chance.  She had yet another freakout.  This time just before our food came so mommy and daddy had to eat separately yet again.  We're praying she out grows this so we can eventually go out to dinner and eat as a family :(

Sunday, we said goodbye to Savannah and headed back home.  The little chatterbox was pretty good for the flight back to Philly.  She had a moment of sleeplessness but after a couple minutes of crying she was out for the rest of the flight.  Phew.
Someone was SO happy once we finally landed home :)
